A VW Transporter T6.1 on the Maha dyno in the Pendle HQ dyno cell, under the Pendle Performance wall logo

About Pendle Performance

We calibrate engines.

Every vehicle is custom calibrated in-house by Martin – never a generic file. At Pendle HQ each one gets a full health check, a dyno run and a data log before and after, and it doesn’t leave until the calibration is right.

The man behind the method

Martin.

Martin at Pendle HQMartin began building and tuning engines for Peugeot Talbot at sixteen – blueprinting, porting and developing engines by hand, long before engines were run by software. As the technology moved on, he took that mechanical understanding into ECU calibration. Thirty-eight years later, every Pendle calibration is built on his method: research, development, and proof on the dyno and on the road.

“We don’t chase figures. A correct calibration is safe, reliable and smooth, with the power delivered exactly where it should be – that matters more than any number on a printout.”

Martin · From the bench to the ECU

Engines first. Then software.

At Peugeot Talbot he blueprinted engines, ported and bored heads, and built Talbot Sunbeam rally cars and big-bore twin-carb Pinto engines. When engines moved to electronics, he moved with them – with nearly twenty years of calibration in WinOLS. “It’s not just work – it’s my hobby.”

Martin · The method

Within the limits. Never beyond.

Fuel, air, boost and the engine’s own torque strategy are calibrated as one, on standard hardware – smooth from low down, a straight pull across the rev range, and easy on the gearbox, dual mass flywheel, drive shafts and engine mountings. “I’m interested in that engine being tuned correctly for that customer to drive, and having no hardware problems.”

“It’s not about finding the limits – it’s working within the limits.”

A MAN TGE on the Maha dyno in the Pendle HQ dyno cell

Pendle HQ · The dyno cell

Linked front and rear.

Our four-wheel-drive Maha MSR 500 has linked roller sets, front and rear turning in sync. Modern four-wheel-drive and torque-vectoring systems are tested safely, exactly as they run on the road – with no strain on the transfer box or gearbox.

Pendle HQ · The dyno cell

Sealed and air-controlled.

The Maha sits in a sealed, air-controlled cell. Airflow at the front simulates driving at up to 140 mph, and the same volume is extracted at the back, so the cell’s pressure stays balanced. Three eddy-current retarders hold a vehicle at a set rpm for steady-state tuning.

A full health check, a baseline dyno run and a data log. Then the custom calibration – followed by the dyno and the data log again to prove it.

Martin pointing out a Maha MSR 500 result at Pendle HQ

“Customers work hard for their money. When they spend it on their vehicle, it’s my duty to get that vehicle tuned correctly.”

The Pendle Performance network

A UK-wide network and growing.

Our customers helped build this company from the ground up, and our approved agents are part of the family. Three run linked four-wheel-drive Maha MSR 500 dynos and seven or eight run Maha two-wheel-drive dynos – and every one fits the same Pendle calibration, made here at Pendle HQ.
